Adventures in couponing – Wags.

Before I start today’s fun fun fun couponing post, let’s take care of some housekeeping.  I finally learned how to get all those following and connect things added to my blog.  Check out the upper right corner – I’ve got the subscribe in reader thingy, subscribe via e-mail thingy, and the Google Friend Connect follow thingy.  It’s OK to be a follower sometimes 😉

Alright – are you ready?  I’m back today with a fun lil’ coupon adventure – REALLY fun.  I even roped my husband in to it and sent him out to try some of these and while he won’t admit it, they went off without a hitch so he had a good time.  This time around I chose to take advantage of Walgreens’ Jingle Cash holiday promotion.  Commando couponers call Walgreens “Wags” for short BTW.  Anyway, note that they always have their Register Rewards, but they have renamed them “Jingle Cash” for the holiday season.  Basically you buy something at x price, pay for it, and you get x amount of money back – in the form of Jingle Cash ideally to be spent at Wags (more about this later).

Before you panic and think there’s no way you can do all this, let me remind you that I work a full-time job and I have 2 little kids.  So you CAN do this.  What you need to do first is follow coupon blogs.  The best one for Wags scores is Wild for Wags.  Before the ad even hits the paper on Sunday, she’ll have the list posted on what’s coming so that you can jot down some notes and make a plan to pop in to Wags on your way home from work or on your way to your mom’s or whatever.  You can do this – it’s FUN, and you can score a lot of stuff on the cheap or free, so it saves you money but sometimes it even makes you money.

First up was the Hallmark tissue deal.  Tissue paper was (3) for $1 – with the in-ad coupon, didn’t even need your own coupon…on any of these deals here today.  Buy (6) Hallmark tissue papers and get $2 Jingle Cash back.  I didn’t know about the $2 Jingle Cash back because it wasn’t in this first ad, but I found that out by checking out Wild for Wags.

My husband did this trip all on his own.  He bought (18) packs of tissue paper, (3) separate transactions of (6) packs, paid his $6 and got $6 back.  That’s what they call free, folks.

And then there was this ActivOn deal.  And we’re gettin’ old over here.  Old and fat…and in the wintertime, yeah, things start to creak and ache.  Same goes for my moms.  So I saw this stuff in the ad – buy 1 for $7.99, and get $7.99 back.  I’m all for trying new things – especially on the cheap or free.

I sent my husband to get some of these, and then I stopped on my way home from work Friday night to pick some up too.  Again, separate transactions – you can only get
(1) Jingle Cash/Register Reward per item per transaction.  But you make nice with the cashiers and no one cares – they are really cool about it.

Same went for this Energy Booster stuff.  Buy (1) for $3, get $3 back.

And then there was the Goody deal.  I leave for work while my kids are waking up, so my husband dresses them, feeds them and gets them on the school bus – he’s a gem of a man.  But – my daughter’s hair is never done.  I showed up at her Christmas program last week and she looked like she had spiders fighting in her hair.  Our goal for winter break is to teach her how to brush her hair good, and put a little something in it:  all by herself.  Enter the Goody deal.  Buy (1) at $2, get $2 back.  A bunch of separate transactions on this one – but for someone who doesn’t even use these little things, she sure does lose them a lot.

Alright – so here’s the good part.  After all was said and done, I ended up with over $100 Jingle Cash.  Now, these have expiration dates – like a week out.  DO NOT LET THESE EXPIRE or you just paid for all that stuff and that’s no good.  We don’t want to pay when we can get cheap or free, girls!

But guess what I found out this week?  At the top of the Jingle Cash it says “Manufacturer’s Coupon” – because the Goody people or the Hallmark people are the ones giving the money back for buying their product.  And because it’s a manufacturer’s coupon that means you can use it at ANOTHER store.  A DIFFERENT store…like Walmart – wooooo!

So I heard that Walmart had these Monopoly Ubuild games for $10 each.  And, that they were on sale this weekend for $5 each because the Hasbro folks weren’t happy with the sales of this item.  Then I went HERE to get this coupon for $3 off said Monopoly Ubuild game.  After you print a coupon, hit the back button and 99.9% of the time it’ll let you print it one more time.

I just read about this deal early yesterday morning so I sent my husband down to the Walmart with (2) $2 Jingle Cash and (2) $3 off Monopoly Ubuild coupons – in the snow, at 5:52 a.m.  He went down to the Walmart (“the Walmart”, that’s how they say it in the south and that’s how I like to say it too, all rednecky like that) and got himself these here games for free.  I didn’t need them but for nothin’ these are perfect to donate to Toys for Tots which are still being accepted at your local fire stations through today, I believe.

I say again, and always, YOU ARE THE QUEEN! That is awesome. Kay my daughter’s hair is nothing special, but you have to (if you haven’t already) try the Johnson and Johnson no more tangles spray. That stuff is awesome! It helps with my daughter’s hair SO much. Okay, that is all!
