Happy day-after-Christmas, Dolls!

I hope you had a great Christmas and that Santa was really good to each and every one of you.  I was telling my husband that you know you’re getting old when your favorite Christmas gifts are scissors (Martha Stewart – I have 2, but wanted another pair and I found it too wasteful to buy more for myself when I already had some), socks (I have a sock fetish) and shampoo (Pureology – too cheap to buy it for myself so I asked for it.  I’ll spend $17 on a bottle of shampoo, but $27 was out of the question for my cheap-o self) – LOL  Santa was very generous this year – apparently we were all really good this year.  What about you – get anything more exciting than scissors, socks and shampoo?  I’d love to hear about it!

Our trip to Vegas for the Boise State game was awesome.  The drive down was a little rough though – 12-hour trip took 15 hours because of snow in Utah and then pounding rain coming down at night at the bottom of Utah down in to Arizona.  But we made it, safely, and that’s all that matters.  It rained most of the time we were there but miraculously it stopped right before the game started, and then started up again right after the game ended; thank goodness!  The buffets were…sinful.  The MGM has the bestest buffet in Vegas – if you’ve never been, you need to.  Go for lunch because it’s cheaper 😉 and it’ll still beat any other buffet in town.

Coming home was interesting.  Driving through Utah after we spanked the Utes was fun.  Points and stares at the McDonaldses, people driving by rolling down their windows and doing the thumbs down thing.  Funny.  But when we got home it got better.  We had the heater off while we were gone – saving money, you know 😉 – and we turned it on the second we got in the house…it was 45 freakin’ degrees!  Immediately we smelled that burning dust smell when you turn the heater on for the first time of the year, you know?  And then the smoke alarms went off.  No fire…but no hot air either.  Had to call the heater dude to come over right then because we were frrrreeeeeeezing.  Yeah so we’re getting a new $1700 furnace today.  I almost panicked.  OK, I did panic because I don’t know about you but I don’t have a spare $1700 just sitting in my wallet.  But it’s OK.  I think of all the money I save on other stuff.  And of course this is one of those non-negotiable expenses.

Speaking of cheap – if we get this house cleaned up today I’ll have a couponing post for you tomorrow.  If not, it’s back to cards.  But I have a couple of trips of stuff to share that I haven’t been able to post because the dining room table has not been clear for weeks…sad.  ’tis the season – heh.

Sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas and great time in Los Vegas!! We had a WHITE Christmas way down here in the deep South in Georgia, so that was AWESOME!!! Looking forrward to your upcoming couponing post and new creations in the new year!

We had a white Christmas in East TN this year! The first time my kids (9 and 7) have ever seen snow on Christmas day. My youngest said this was the best Christmas ever. Hubby and I don’t do much for each other on Christmas but I received a memory foam pillow (i’m getting older unfortunately and can’t sleep on just anything anymore *sigh*) and a coffee bean grinder.

I also received the stamps I won from you along with that gorgeous card you sent. WOW! I loved it! I was also fortunate to receive a stamp set from a friend along with a gorgeous card with a handwritten message inside that made me leak a few tears. I feel very, very fortunate. Now, if I could just find my mojo…

I’m having some difficulty keeping track of what day of the week it is! I have a new calendar in my stocking so that will help me with next year; I just have to figure out what’s going on with the rest of the year!!
We spent time together as an extended family. No snow, but lots of rain.
I too look forward to the upcoming adventures in couponing and card making.
    Thanks for the chance.

Happy Boxing Day to you! It’s summer down here, so no white Christmas for us – in fact I think it was about 26C. I was very spoilt by family & friends this year. Now I just need to use it all 🙂 Thanks for the chance to win.

I am so glad that your trip went off without a hitch! All the crazy snow here had me in a frazzle! And I’m so sorry to hear about your heater, that totally sucks. But you are right, some costs are just non-negotiable! And THANKS for kicking the Ute’s butts! Woo-hoo! Down with the Utes! LOL!

I got new kitchen knives… is that MORE or LESS exciting than scissors and shampoo? Hee hee!

So funny, we are so extremely alike with the exception of the super duper couponing. I cannot hold a candle to you, but i have my little coupon victories and am a total cheapskate. Yeah the shampoo thing is so something I would do. I asked for Tombow refills because I am ALWAYS running out mid project. And slippers, I’m a warm sock, slipper freak. I also got a new camera cuz my hubby broke my old one (no blog posts :-() and my first sewing machine (yay) but the little things that I wouldnt buy for myself (cuz I’m cheap) were the best The Utah thing is funny I lived there 5 years and there is soo much to make fun of. Haha just kidding but I’m a California girl so it was like another planet. They get fiesty about sports especially when the Utes and BYU play! Lotsa BYU Alum in my family but it’s still funny to tease. Oh and I agree with the MGM buffet but my parents took us to the M Resort in South Vegas and it’s AMAZING (it’s been open for like 2 years)! Like Willy Wonka of food. The head chef was a winner on Iron Chef. You should try it next time, the desserts are incredible. Anyway sorry for the incredibly long comment. Luv your blog and reading all of your adventures in craftiness and couponing, my 2 passions. Keep em coming and happy happy new year.

Welcome back, girlfriend! Missed your daily posts! Sounds like you had another adventure with the trip – but sounds like the win & the food way made up for the drive. Sorry to hear about the furnace – Whoa – $1700 for a new one – but yup, can’t skimp on the “must haves”. Scissors, socks and shampoo? LOL. Did the kiddos enjoy their Christmas?.

Love this verve set. I love hearing your adventures in couponing – but I never could do so well. And our local stores rarely double coupons. Maybe once or twice a year.

Oh my Gosh!!!!!!! Love all of that cheese. I need to practice getting more deals. Maybe you should add another day of couponing posts while the deals are still going, so we can get in on them too. Thanks for the giveaways. I love, love, love, this set. I’ve got my fingers crossed.

  14. Amy

I’d love the chance to win some Verve goodness. I’m unable to order from Verve as they only mail to certain countries and unfortunately South Africa is not on their mailing list. I did manage to order some of their Plain Jane bible verses before they changed their shipping policy. Thanks for the great giveaways.
