Kayleigh’s birthday journal.

Kelly asked about my camping and s’more-making weekend.  I guess I say I’m gonna do this or that and never report back, do I?  Well camping and s’mores was a good time.  It rained a lot, and it was very windy, but we have a travel trailer, so we were OK.  My little girl was inches from a rattlesnake and I think that’s a moment she will never forget for the rest of her life.  I had my Big Shot along for when they went geocaching, and I made banners for each of the kids’ birthdays that are coming up.

Today I’m sharing one of the birthday gifts I made for my daughter.  She’s a crafty girl just like her momma. She’s always writing little stories and notes, making pictures, and attempting to make fortune tellers (we used to call them “cootie catchers” back in the day). She really does appreciate handmade things and the love that goes in to them. I found this little kraft-covered journal in my Christmas stocking and thought it was time to bring it to life. It’s a little busy, hodgepodgy, and mixy-matchy, but I know she’ll love it just the same.

I covered the front and back of the journal with patterned paper from Imaginisce’s Animal Crackers collection and embellished with a little canvas circus seal from that same collection, and a punched out circle from it too. I layered some buttons with Glue Dots in between and poked a star pin through it and topped my bow with it. Then I spelled out her name in alpha stickers from October Afternoon. I felt like the colors matched but didn’t pop enough so I faux stitched around them to make them stand out more. I layered some Cosmo Cricket chipboard in the bottom corner because I really wanted to get that 7 on there for her birthday. When I was done I thought there was an awkward space up under the “ladies & gentlemen” so I wrote a few words.

By the way – I’ve had questions about custom orders.  I don’t sell handmade items in my shoppe, just supplies.  But I do handle custom orders.  So if there’s ever a card, invitation occasion, set of gift bags, journal, etc. that you would like, e-mail me (link on the sidebar) and I’ll hook you up.

Looks like we have kids the same age :). I absolutely love this!! My son (and 4yodd) are both crafty but he is my story writer. The journal idea is so awesome. I have all of mine from when I was a kid so I know she will truly treasure this!!
