Posted by Michelle on September 12th, 2011 . Filed under: American Crafts .If you follow my couponing posts, you know that I’m all about saving money. When it comes to clothes for my kids, I buy clearance/out of season for the next year. This saves us bunches of money. And the way kids go through clothes I just cannot pay full price for a pair of jeans or a shirt that’s going to get stained or frayed after 2 weeks (if not sooner). I know some people shop at second hand and thrift shops for their kids’ clothes. Definitely a cheaper way to go. I have never done that and don’t think I ever will because I do OK the way I shop. And for some reason, getting clothes from strangers kinda gives me the willies. All that being said, there’s this lady at work who has twin 11-year old girls. She asked me how old my daughter was – she’s 7 – and asked if I’d like her daughters’ hand-me-downs. I said yes…without question. I didn’t know how my daughter would take it, if she would think it odd or, I don’t know…gross? But I brought these 2 gigantic bags of clothes home for her and she was so excited, it was like Christmas for her going through those bags.
No issues at all; totally happy to wear some of her new clothes to school this week 🙂
So, in thanks, I made those girls each a journal. I was kinda low on patience this weekend – (son burned his hand at grandma’s, she calls me and tells me she’s taking him to the hospital; I got pulled over by the police; I have strep throat and so does my husband) – so these were kind of rushed, but I think they came out OK.

Michelle, I really like the journals. Do you just cover plain journals with fancy finery or do you make the paper part as well. Asking because I need to make journals for my girl’s group (grade 6) at church and I can’t decide which way to go.
And, I totally get not buying at thrift stores while being happy with ‘hand-me-downs’ from folks I know. Something about knowing where it came from is a good thing.
