Adventures in Couponing.

Got a busy lil’ coupon weekend to share with y’all.  By busy I should say lots of trips.  But I have to tell you, I don’t spend a ton of time on couponing.  Before I go to the store I have my coupons in order of the route I’ll take in the store so that there’s no wasted time.  Actual in-store time is not long at all.  My Walgreens runs for example are on Sunday morning and we leave the house at 7:45 and are done by 8:30.  Just thought I’d share that lil’ tidbit as I’ve been watching Extreme Couponing and these people are talking about a 4-hour shopping trip.  That’s wack.  And it’s all made for television anyway.  Don’t get me started.  Anywho…

Albertsons had a great Catalina deal going on this particular week.
Bunches of items were buy x and get x back.  And if you pair coupons with it you can save even more.  And if you pair doublers on top of that you can turn it in to a moneymaker.  I opted to go a day early on these two deals and not make the deal a moneymaker.  I was able to get the Jello for 8-cents a box.  And Jello is one of those things that I refuse to go generic on.  Knowing the next day people would be clearing out the Jello for the moneymaking deal to start, I went early, paid my 8-cents a box and was happy.

Same situation with the TGIF meals.  These were going to be for my husband’s lunches at work.
I got them for 13-cents each the day before the moneymaking deal started because I was happy to pay just 13 cents for a lunch for him and I wanted to get some before they were cleared out.

I also went to Walmart this particular Saturday because it was the last day of matching the Kmart doubling up to 99-cent coupons deal.  So I picked up a few things with my lower value coupons.  This Seneca oatmeal is new and pre-made just pop it in the microwave.  After doublers they were 88-cents a pack.  Not the deal of the century but for some time when we are running out the door and no one’s eaten yet, I can see this coming in handy.  The Muir Glen tomato paste was free.  I had 2 coupons but could only find 1 can in a random spot.  Weird.  Challenge Butter was 44-cents each after doublers.  And the Tide packs were a moneymaker as there was a $2-off coupon in the paper and these are regularly 97-cents.  I got 2 of these for free and then I made $4.12 on the others.

Halloween clearance.  I hope this isn’t a new and brilliant idea to anyone.  But I shop after holidays for the next year.  75% is when I start.  Plates were 50-cents and cups were 37-cents.  I got packs of Halloween playing cards and tattoos for my daughter’s class for next year at 98-cents each so for $3.92 I’ve got goodies for her class and just need to package them up a year from now.  Colorful vampire teeth were 36-cents a pack and will be for my son’s class.  I also got the kids’ costumes for next year (not pictured) my daughter is going to be Buster the Boise State mascot and my son will be one of the Super Mario Brothers; $5 each.  Done and done.

Sunday morning we started at Albertsons with coupons, doublers and Catalina $ that rolled to pay for the next purchase.  After all that is taken in to account these chips were 49-cents each.

6-packs of Christmas Coca-Cola were $1.99 – got these because they’d be fun to have at Christmas or Thanksgiving, and I had lefover Catalina $.  Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner for my daughter for 49-cents each.  Notice the variety is called “DRAMA” – perfect for her 😉  And did I not just say that I do not pay for toothpaste?  Well I HAD to pay 49-cents each for these because it helped me buy down the price of the Herbal Essences.  Hard to explain but I needed cheap items to add to the order.  Kinda like fillers at Walgreens.

And then it was off to the Walmart.  Green tea was 12-cents a box after coupons and doublers.  Pepperidge Farms crackers were 78-cents each after coupons and doublers.  Trident was 8-cents a pack after clearance price, coupons and doublers.  These are going in the Christmas goody bags for my son’s class at school.  And then there was a box that said “free, take one” on the Chex Mix seasoning.  I’ll admit that initially I took 3 and my daughter says “mom, it says take ONE.”  So I put them back.  Buzzkill.

Bread and butter.  Free bread when you buy the butter!  Butter was $2.68 and I doubled $1 so got these for 68-cents each.  I had coupons too for free bread when you bought 2 of the butters.  Score!

I had a random $1 coupon for the Bounty and they were 97-cents, so free.  More free LA Looks gel for my son – $1.94, double $1 and make 6-cents each actually.  The Sally Hansen emery boards were 24-cents each after doubling $1.  Crest was a 3-cent moneymaker too.  And then more free/moneymaking Tide.  1 of them was free and I made another $4.12 on the others.

And then we went to Walgreens.  Blistex was $1.99 get a $1.99 RR back.  So free.  And the Betty Crocker corn muffins were my filler items on these trips so they were 33-cents each but paying with RRs so technically free…or just paying tax anyway.

Christmas candy at Walgreens.  They were $3 each, get a $2 RR back when you bought 2 and I had coupons in there so I got these for 49-cents each.  Looks like we’re all set for Christmas parties.

And before I leave you today, here’s a little update from my Thanksgiving Day haul
The sale was a 3-day sale starting on Thanksgiving Day and going through Saturday.  So in addition to everything I got on Thanksgiving Day, I got paid to take all this too!
