Would you send a card for my Uncle Joe’s last birthday?

This is my Uncle Joe.  And he’s got colon cancer and lung cancer.  They are moving him from living alone in California to coming up here where his 2 sisters (my mom and my aunt) are.  They’re talking about hospice and all that, so, in real terms:  the end is near.

He will be here on August 27th.  August 28th is his 64th (and most likely last) birthday.  I thought it’d be cool if we can get him a bunch of birthday cards sent up here since he won’t be seeing his friends and well, yeah, last birthday and all that.

I’m thinking the fun kind of cards.  I’m not sure he’d be down with the more serene/religious cards.  From what I’m hearing, he’s not really accepting it all that well.  So we’ll just make it a happy happy fun day for him.

I’d love it and appreciate it so much if you would send him a card.

Thanks girls – and if you want to pass this along to the rest of your papercrafting girlfriends, I’d welcome, love, and appreciate that too!

This really struck a cord with me Michelle, my great uncle is in the exact same situation except he has oesophageal and lung cancer, we were told he wouldn’t live to see the Olympics but fortunately he’s still with us! I hope Uncle Joe can stay well for as long as possible.

I wanted to do something special for his birthday in June, so I took a huge birthday card around the shops and businesses in his village (everyone seems to know him!) and got everyone to sign it, he was thrilled when I gave it to him. I truly believe that lifted his spirits and made him feel very loved, I hope it has the same effect on Uncle Joe.

    Sorry for the essay!
