Spring Sweets.
Posted by Michelle on March 22nd, 2011 . Filed under: Gift Packaging, Glitz Design, It's in the Bag!, Sassafras, Spring .I sat down this weekend – while the hubs and kids were spring cleaning *giggles* – to make some sweet spring treats for the kids’ church class teachers. I do a lot for the kids’ school teachers, but often times forget to remember the ladies that volunteer to teach religious education classes down at the church. So tonight the kiddies will be delivering these sweet spring treats to their teachers to let them know that we appreciate them and wish them a joyful spring.
I get my Ghirardelli bars super cheap on my coupon adventures – 29-cents each these were – and embellishing them is one of my most favie things to do. A kraft envie from Maya Road swooshed with some white acrylic paint, Sassafrass paper in the center, some fun ruffled layers of May Arts ribbon topped with pink twine, flower and button.
Another Maya Road kraft envie swooshed with white acylic paint, I wrapped some May Arts wide green and white grosgrain ribbon around first and then topped it with a diecut Sassafras basket topped with some May Arts yellow ruffle trim.
That fuschia bead trim from May Arts is so fun to tie in here and there…just gives a little bit of whimsy
– love that!
Another thing I love about embellished or packaging candy is that I can mix and match to my heart’s content just picking up whatever random scraps of this and that I have laying around. I wrapped a piece of Linen Vellum cardstock around the candy bar and topped that with a Dear Lizzy journaling piece, a Glitz Design rub on, tied ribbon and a bow with (2) different sizes of coordinating May Arts ribbons and topped it with a Glitz rhinestone and made a little taggie with some Glitz alpha stickers too.
I tucked some old, leftover and unloved Prima flowers in there at the end – now they’re happy and loved 🙂
I love love love the green in this particular May Arts ribbon – it’s just such a true and bright green. I wrapped it around the height of my candy bar and tied a big ol’ flouncy bow with it and then embellished the front of the bar with some random bits: a spiral notebook page, a doily, a spring diecut and some Sassafras cardstock stickers.
I have a pack of these little kraft pouches from 7 Gypsies that I have had laying around for I bet 2 years. Time to love these little guys proper. I topped the pouch with some patterned paper from Sassafras, a little cardstock sticker sentiment from Glitz Design, a giant piece of some Prima crystal edging, and then I tied a big ol’ bow with some May Arts wire ribbon. Love wire ribbon – I use it for all my Christmas packages.
More of that fun fuschia bead trim from May Arts tied around the center of my bow before topping.
And last but not least, I took one of my new gingham bags in apple green and covered the bottom portion with some Sassafras patterned paper topped with stickers and rub-ons and even some Sugar Coating from Doodlebug.
Then I folded the top down and punched (2) holes to make a fun yellow bow (more May Arts wired ribbon) topped with some giant vintage pom poms.
I love creating my own sentiments with teeny alphas from Glitz Design – that way I can have my card or gift say exactly what I want it to!

The ribbons you used are so luscious. They add such presence and richness to each of the gifts. I am one of those people who teach religious ed and, even though I don’t eat chocolate, would appreciate the thought and creativity that went into these gifts. I would be touched and am sure your children’s teachers were.
