Adventures in Couponing.
Posted by Michelle on December 11th, 2011 . Filed under: Couponing .Got another busy couponing week to share with you. Truth in advertising: I don’t blog my coupon adventures as timely as I would like. I’m usually a week or more behind because my post runs on Sunday and Sunday is when I shop. So the post that goes live on Sunday is usually from a couple weeks prior. I tell you this because today’s post is from the week of Thanksgiving when there were sales and promos galore. Albertsons had double coupons for 5 days instead of their normal 3 days, Kmart had double coupons for 4 days, and both of these would be matched/honored at Walmart. So a busy little shopping week for sure.
We stopped at Albertsons first. They had these Emerald Breakfast on the Gos on sale for $2.50 (down from $3.59), I doubled $1 and got these for 50-cents each.
The carb shot – ha! The little packs of Hawaiian rolls were $1.19, I doubled $1-off-2 and got these for 19-cents each. Pepperidge Farms holiday crackers were $4.39 on sale for $2.49, I doubled $1 and got these for 49-cents a box. And the little animal crackers were 33-cents each after doubling $1-off-2.
I had a few 40-cent coupons for marshmallows that I got from Coupons.com and found these ones on clearance for 75-cents each. Doubled my 40-cents and these were free. The salad dressing was $1 each. A good deal, but not great. But there were coupons with for $1 off produce when you buy 2. I was able to double those coupons so for every 2 bottles of dressing, I got $2 in produce. I needed to get potatoes and celery and things for Thanksgiving anyway, so it was really like buying the produce I was already going to get and getting free dressing.
Then we headed down to the Walmart. I had 2 more coupons left for the little Tai Pei meals and got these for 47-cents each. A couple more Uncrustables coupons and got these for 56-cents each. The Philadelphia cooking cream cheese – have you tried this? It’s REALLY good and makes for good dinners quickly. They were $2.48, doubled $1 and got them for 48-cents each. The big packs of Hawaiian rolls were on sale for $2, I doubled $1 and got them free. Yes, I paid 19-cents for the small packs at Albertsons and got the big packs free at Walmart. Different coupons. And Blue Bonnet margarine was 92-cents and I had coupons for $1-off-3 which I doubled and got these for 25-cents each.
Glazed apples were $2.50, doubled 75-cents and got these for $1. A nice fall treat, no? The Christmas Mother’s cookies were for my daughter’s Christmas party – $1.28 each after doubling a 75-center. The pepperonis I’m not exactly sure on because I lost my receipt – my shredder broke and I have this crazy pile of receipts now waiting to be shredded and I am an unorganized mess – but I think they were a little over $1 after the doubler. They weren’t super cheap, but a good price for the item. And I picked up another free Chex Mix seasoning packet.
And then we have Walgreens. Great deal on kid’s Advil. Follow me on this… They were $4.99 each. Buy 2 = $9.98. I had coupons for $1 off which makes it $7.98 for 2. Then they had coupons that you could use from the Walgreens coupon book and those were $2 off. So that takes me down to $3.98 for 2 boxes. And then you get $3 back. So 98-cents for 2 boxes of kid’s Advil – score! The Bayer was $1.99 and I had a $2 coupon that I ripped out of a magazine somewhere, so that was free. The Nozin whatever it is? was $7.99 get $7.99 back = free. And the Christmas Peeps, the handwarmers which we love for the Boise State games, and the faux nails were my filler items. I paid with Register Rewards so I would guess that my out-of-pocket here was about $2.
I thought it’d be fun to share with you another way that I save: free samples from the internet. The P&G site, Walmart.com, Costco.com and Target.com have free samples all. the. time. And hey, if they’re going to pay to ship it to me and I can either use the item or donate it, why not, right? Shampoo, toothpaste, heartburn stuff, pads…even got some seeds to plant in the garden come spring. Oh and movies – I signed up to review movies so I’ve got a couple of those so far too. Yeah – I’m all about the free.
And then one last thing. My daughter made this for me.
In case you can’t read the scan very well:
Dear, Mommy
I Love going coponing with you
hope we by lots of things
I Love you
P.S. hope you have fun
Love, Kayleigh
And then the graphic is the little girl asking “so what’s next?” next to a $1 Crest toothpaste display – LOL!

aww how cute is your kid? LOVE it! We bought some of those breakfast on the go things (with a coupon even!) and we thought they were disgusting. I dont know just kinda weird. We had the chocolate kind. I am a huge fan of the cooking cream cheese, really good and really quick!
