Yupper…that’s right.
Today is my birthday.
And you are looking at what I bought myself for my birthday: a new blog.
This stuff ain’t free, y’all. This is high-falutin’ cold hard cash you’re lookin’ at right here.
And I’m glad you found me.
So yeah, today is my birthday.
Today is my 40th birthday.
FORTY – there, I said it.

I’ve been working very hard on saying it a lot over the past few months so that when today got here it wouldn’t be so hard. 30 was REALLY hard. 40 is hard too. Less hard, I think – probably because I know that I made it through 30 and somewhere past the tears, way in the back of my mind I know that aging is inevitable and that I’m really no different today than I was yesterday. Well, except for that whole older thing.
I’ve been very nostalgic lately. Listening to music from when I was growing up. Music that I hated then – Mr. Roboto – and will actually sing along with now. Thinking about people I went to grade school with and wondering what ever happened to them. Missing my dad (he died 5 years ago). He never got to meet my kids – or they him – and that makes me sad.
So anyway…{happy face}…I have this thing about not working on my birthday – so I’m off today. Starting the day with a couple hours of dental work. And then I have a doctor appointment. I’m thinking to make the day even that much more special I might even get my foot run over in a parking lot or get rear-ended at a stoplight – LOL OK, not really – but seriously…starting your birthday with a root canal sucks ass. Yes, I said ass. I can do that because this is my blog, and it’s my birthday – heh. So all you nanny pannies that want the G-rated crafty girl, you’re gonna have to come back tomorrow because I’m FORTY today, damnit!
Whoa. Sorry about that. How about we move on to a card before I drop the F-bomb? So here’s the thing. Now that I am a cardmaker I have this thing about buying cards: not allowed. So I told my husband that instead of him going to the grocery store and picking me up a $5 card, that I would make me a card from him. He thinks that’s the most ridiculous thing ever. I think it makes sense…and it’s hilarious at the same time.

Purple is both our favorite color, and not a color I work with a lot in my cards. I used some Dear Lizzy Enchanted patterned paper and journaling elements, alphabet chipboard from The Girls’ Paperie, and a doily. Every single thing I made this weekend had a doily on it. Definitely on a doily kick.
I’m off to Starbucks. Starting the day alone…with a latte…and some tears. It’s my birthday ritual. I’m a crybaby like that. But later today I’ll celebrate with the fam and all will be well in my newly-40-year-old world.

Happy Birthday! Mine is Oct 8th so were kind of like soul sisters!!! But I’m a teeny weeny bit older. Turning 51. You think turning 40 is hard, wait till you hit 50. OUCH! LOL

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, GIRLFRIEND! And congrats on this gorgeous new blog. The fact that you can say/do anything you want is priceless! I love reading your blog every day. Makes me laugh and is inspirational at the same time. Your card is beautiful (loving all the diff little details), but try to let your husband & kids do stuff for you and spoil you today. It’s your day! (not sure why you are starting it off crappily, tho – LOL). And secretly (;P), I went thru 40 recently and I must say – being in your 40s does something to ya. You kind of don’t give a crap what anyone thinks anymore – you’ve been there/done that and have a pretty good sense of yourself (which for me was seriously lacking in my 20s & 30s). And altho I thought 40 was ancient when I was younger, I sure don’t feel old. So go celebrate! no tears, lol.

Congratulations on turning 40 (you’re just a baby) and on your new blog!!! When I was younger, I really thought that I would be at my prime when I turned 40 and really, I was.
At 40, you know what you want and where you’re going AND you KNOW how to get there!!! Best of luck to you on that journey!!!

I’m late, but Happy Birthday! I hope your latte was fabulous and not watered down with your birthday tears. I get the crybaby on the birthday thing– I’ve been known to do it myself. I was so upset when I turned 25 for some stupid reason and also when I turned 35. Maybe 40 won’t bother me and I”ll lose it at 45. LOL

Happy Belated B-day!!
My 40th is in less than a month and I guarantee it won’t be acknowledged. I HATE birthdays. I even took the day off work so there is no risk of the office doing anything. I’m going to be home and be reclusive.
